Welcome to PCOMS
The Pinellas County Osteopathic
Medical Society was established in 1957 and has grown to become the largest
county society in the osteopathic profession. In fact, if PCOMS was a
state in osteopathic medicine, it would be the 12th largest state having
more osteopathic physicians than thirty-eight states.
PCOMS continues to be a strong,
viable society and has progressed to become the most active county society
in the state and nation. Presently, we have as members, such as, the next
President of the American Osteopathic Association, the 1st Vice-President
and Member-at-Large of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association Executive
Board of Osteopathic Medicine, a member on the Board of Governors of the
American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and a member on the
American Osteopathic board of Family Physicians.
PCOMS is actively involved
in the legislative process at both the state and national level. The PCOMS
office is in contact with the FOMA and AOA legislative leaders on a year-round
basis. Members and staff have provided leadership on key issues affecting
the practice of medicine including legislation on Medicare reform, professional
liability, office of the inspector general rules and regulations, and
fraud and abuse issues with Medicare. Through this involvement, including
conduction a national medical conference on these issues, PCOMS has established
itself as respected legislative liaisons with elected officials and government
agencies.
